Intellectual Property Law Clinic

The Penn State Law Intellectual Property Clinic (IP Clinic) trains outstanding intellectual property lawyers by having law students counsel Pennsylvania innovators, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and early-stage start-ups in Intellectual Property strategy.

Under the direction and guidance of the Clinic Director, the IP Clinic’s law students advise clients in various matters, including:

  • general intellectual property counseling
  • performing patentability and trademark clearance searches
  • drafting patent and trademark applications, and interacting with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

These services are provided pro bono (free) to those clients who would not otherwise have access to high quality intellectual property legal services.  The IP Clinic does not provide services relating to litigation.

Consultations are by appointment only.

To set up an appointment, complete the below IP Clinic Intake Form. Please be advised the approximate wait time for intake meetings is 6-8 weeks. This does not take into account semester breaks.

Intake meetings are for informational purposes, meant to discuss which type(s) of IP are best suited for your situation and to help build a plan for the future. There is an additional wait time for actionable items (i.e., trademark and patent clearance searches, document review, etc.) as these items are placed on a secondary waitlist.
